Cartagena
An ancient port & strategic military base in Roman times, numerous archaeological museums, including Roman ruins, amphitheatre, castle, cathedral & Bishop's palace, several historic churches and pretty port area.
Huge investment is going into Cartagena and with excellent new road systems in place, journey times between the port and La Torre resort have been reduced to 40 minutes. Plenty of parking is available throughout the city, for first-time visitors follow signs for "El Puerto" (the port) where an underground car park is available. If you're lucky you may see one of the cruise ships frequenting the port.
For a great view of the city from the sea take a trip on the tourist boat around the harbour with a running commentary of the port and it's history "El Barco Turistica"around 45 mins long or for those who love to feel the wind in their hair, a new catamaran is now sailing from the harbour and out into the bay around Cartagena, takes around 1 hour -www.catamaranole.com
From the harbour area head into the historic centre of the city along the marble pedestrianised
Calle Mayor, full of boutiques and bars selling the typical tapas.
